What We Can Learn From Susan Boyle’s Makeover
The Britain’s Got Talent singer has been transformed into a blushing beauty in the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar, here’s how they did it
Let’s be honest here. Susan Boyle is never going to be a supermodel. But I have to admit that she does look pretty damn good in the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
I can hear you snorting, “Yeah, I’d look good too after a hair and makeup team fussed over me for hours.” And while that’s true, the magazine’s photo shoot with the Hairy Angel gives us some valuable lessons in how to make the most of what we have (and how to disguise some of our flaws, too).
Confession: I used to work for Harper’s Bazaar, so I have seen how the magazine can take models who looked as plain as dirt when they visited our offices and magically transform them into dazzling butterflies.
But while Susan isn’t exactly going to give Gisele Bundchen a run for her money, she does live up to a motto that Harper’s Bazaar and other fashion and beauty magazines espouse:
Be the best you can be.
So how did Susan do it? With the help of a photographer and magazine team who know it’s all about presentation. Here’s what we can learn from Susan Boyle:
Lesson #1. If you have a double chin or chubby cheeks, hide it by placing your hands on either side of your face (supersize cocktail rings help to distract as well). And by having your arms positioned in front of your body, you won’t look as wide.
