Will You Cut Your Hair Short Like Rachel McAdams or Anne Hathaway?
A big summer trend is to shorten your hair length for the summer. Will you try this trend and have it cropped like Michelle Williams or Emma Watson, or will you stay away from the trend?
During the summer a lot of women chop off their hair to bobs or even shorter. We’ve seen how sexy short hair can look on Emma Watson, Anne Hathaway, Ginnifer Goodwin and now Rachel McAdams. Even though Anne Hathaway cut her hair for Les Miz, she loves her short ‘do. She told New York Magazine, “I’m just so pleased with how I look, so I now quite like having short hair.”
If you’ve been wrestling with the idea of cutting offf your long locks, we want to help you make an informed decision. So we checked in with celebrity hairstylist Jorge Luis of New York City’s Prive Salon for his expert advice. Jorge has worked on fashion editorial shoots, TV shows, red carpet events like the Golden Globes and the Oscars. His celebrity clients include Gina Gershon, Rosanna Arquette, Matthew Modine and Ke$ha.
BettyConfidential: If a woman is thinking about going short for the summer, what factors should she take into account?
Jorge Luis: I always take in consideration a client’s face shape and her neck. So should the client. I just love it when women with long necks show them off. I find it very chic. The shape of the face can determine a cut. This doesn’t mean that women with a round or square face shape shouldn’t or couldn’t go short; it means that the short cuts they pick shouldn’t have a hard-edge to them. Think cuts that Vidal Sassoon is known for, those cuts are considered to be a hard-edged hair cut.
I tend to gravitate towards the softer cuts (like Michelle Williams’ cut); I just feel that they are more feminine, and they flatter most face shapes.
BC: Some women think that by having shorter hair during the summer, they can beat the heat—is this true or a myth?
Jorge Luis: Well, I am a HUGE fan of the pony tail, so if the only reason to cut your hair is just to beat the summer heat, well, there are other alternatives like a pony tail, a fishtail or a French braid. Personally, I love the last two, especially when they’re done in “undone chic,” you know, when they’re loosely braided.
