Words That Make Me Crazy

By: Julie Ryan Evans

There are words and phrases that drive me bonkers. I can barely contain myself when they’re used in my presence. Here are a few of my top ones:

Words that make me crazy Tator—Unless this word is connected to Tot, there’s no excuse. “Pass the ‘taters” at a meal would make me loose my appetite instantly.

Tender—Fingernails on a chalk board is nothing compared to how this word makes me feel when someone describes their meat as “tender”. Just ooo, just yuck. “Chicken tenders” is acceptable, but I prefer to call them “chicken strips”.

Binkie—I know parents around the world use this term for pacifier, but not me. I called it by its full and rightful name from the beginning. Sure my son shorted it to “fire” and walked around yelling “fire!” a lot, but I felt that was much less alarming than hearing “binkie” all day.

Precious—This word in and of itself isn’t so bad, but the tone of voice people emit when they use it is almost without a doubt annoying.

Cool Beans—Just stupid, enough said.

I could go on, but I’d rather hear what you all think.

Tell us: What are some words that you wish could be banished from our language forever?
