Worst Dressed at the 83rd Academy Awards

My oh my! Some stars like Halle Berry we hoped wouldn’t land on this list. Others like Nicole Kidman seem to live on the worst dressed list.

Writing a worst dressed list is way more fun than writing up the best dressed list for any award show. Perhaps it’s because when something is bad on the red carpet, it’s spectacularly bad. Last night’s Oscar’s red carpet was no exception. Mila Kunis and Cate Blanchett, who usually are amazing on the red carpet … didn’t. Nicole Kidman, looked fab at the Grammys, but didn’t do so swell last night.

Honestly, there are people who we didn’t want to put here, but they did it to themselves.

Read on for our worst dressed picks of the night.

Cate Blanchett

If they ever remake Flash Gordon, Cate Blanchett could use this Givenchy Couture gown to play Ming the Merciless.

Gwyneth Paltrow

… And Gwyneth Paltrow could play Cate’s lead evil henchwoman. This Calvin Klein gown screams space alien. Check out the pointy boobs of this dress — they could poke an eye out. Not a good look.

Florence Welch

florence welch

Has anyone introduced Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine to color? Ever? She wore a beige Givenchy horror to the Grammys and now this amazingly boring Valentino (who knew he made boring dresses?). Florence — color won’t hurt you!

Mila Kunis

Oh this is painful. All year long, at every award show, Mila Kunis has been an outstanding red carpet “do” and now this! While I love the feel of this gown — it’s very Belle Epoque — the doilies that cover the girls, the angled lace and the way it’s draped is, let’s say, pretty bad. Twitter went wild when Mila stepped on the red carpet. A few people tweeted that she stole some grandmere’s slip cover and matching lace tatting. Yes,the jewelry by Neil Lane is wonderful (you can’t fault jewelry), but still…. oh Mila, how could you do this to us??

Scarlett Johansson

scarlett johansson

Are we detecting a theme here? First it was attack of the aliens, now is it attack of the doilies? Her bed head hairstyle doesn’t match the formality of the occasion and her dress — oh dear! The lining is wacky, the color not great on the usually superb looking Scarlett Johansson, and the lace, well, it looks like a doily that’s been stretched within an inch of its life.

  1. I agree with most of these. I didn’t like Cate Blanchett’s dress but I know a lot of people did. I really liked Mila Kunis’s dress but I felt it could’ve been more extravagant for such a big award show. I’m surprised to see Gwyneth on here! I LOVED her dress!!

  2. Cate Blanchett’s dress reminded me of an ugly picture frame without the picture. Also Florence Welch’s top doesn’t even match the skirt but she looks so unhappy in her picture also.

  3. No, no, no! Scarlett’s dress was gorgeous, as she was. I love that she’s so unpretentious and you never know what to expect.
I didn’t care at all for Gwyneth’s or Halle’s dresses. What a waste of material.

  4. Wrong about Mila’s dress-she looked great in it and a great dress. So right about the others, especially Cate. What an fugly looking mess-couture my foot !!!!

  5. Well, I kinda like Mila Kunis’ dress. Maybe in a different color, even though I like the color it is. I also think Nicole Kidman’s is nice. I like the structural feel of it. You’re pretty on point about the rest, though.

  6. Gwyneth Paltrow’s is the very worst! I’m sure she has a decent figure, but that dress makes her look too thin with a pot gut… shapeless with short legs. UGH!!!

Florence Welch – looks like something I’d have played “dress up” in left over from the 70’s.
