Remember those $800 baby booties Beyonce recently purchased for Blue Ivy? Well, there’s another celebrity mama in town who’s giving Bey a run for her money. Jennifer Lopez took her daughter, four-year-old Emme, to her very first fashion show on Tuesday—an occasion for which she decked the toddler out in $2,410 worth of Chanel accessories.

WHAT.

JLo seems to have been going for a themed outing here; the show in question was Paris Fashion Week’s Chanel show, and since she and her wee one were sitting front and center, naturally she’d want them wearing as much Chanel as possible. According to Us Weekly, Emme’s baubles included a Chanel logo brooch worth $310 and a butterfly bag worth $2,100. Both pieces are from last season, so at least there’s that, right?…

…No. No, that does not make me feel better about the fact that a four-year-old was wearing the equivalent of three months’ rent for my New York apartment. I like pretty things as much as the next girl, but really? I mean… really??

I realize that when you’re a star as big as JLo, you’ve got money to burn, and it’s great that she’s spending it on her family as well as herself. But I can’t help but feel that buying kids that young such expensive wardrobe items—and accessories, at that, which are arguably not must-haves, as they do nothing to keep you warm or protect you from the elements—is teaching them the wrong lessons. If they learn early on that they can have things like that with no questions asked, what will they do when they encounter the word “no?”

But maybe that’s just me. Am I overreacting? How does this measure up to those $800 booties? Or to Kelly Osbourne’s $250,000 manicure? Are these sorts of things just perks of being rich and famous, or are they a tiny bit weird? Tell us in the comments! Inquiring minds want to know!
