Would You Make Someone Take a Survey After Going On a Date With You?
Would you ask someone to take a survey after going on a date with you? This guy did.
This may seem like a weird question to ask, but there’s a reason I’m asking. I’m posing this question to you because there is a guy out there who ACTUALLY DOES THIS. Seriously.
By now, you’ve no doubt heard about the guy who keeps an incredibly detailed spreadsheet organizing all of the women he’s met on Match.com. Among the many blogs and web outlets that covered the story was Deadspin—who, it turns out, have a reader with a story that totally one-ups Spreadsheet Guy’s. We shall call him Survey Dude.
After reading Deadspin’s post on Spreadsheet Guy last month, a reader who particularly enjoyed the story sent in one of her own about a guy she briefly dated in Philadelphia. Why briefly? Because he sent her a survey about himself and their dates and requested that she fill it out and return it to him.
The two-page survey is divided into four sections—“First Impression,” “Date,” “Conclusion,” and “Form”—and covers everything from his hair and his choice of outfit to whether or not he made a move (and how relieved she was that he did or didn’t). Deadspin’s reader said that Survey Dude is a 24-year-old who, not unlike Spreadsheet Guy, works in finance. Described as “six feet, overall moderately attractive,” they met on OKCupid and went on a few dates before deciding to stop it in its tracks. The survey, by the way, was attached to an email with a Romeo and Juliet quote as its subject line.
For the curious, here’s the full thing (see the bigger version at Deadspin):
Weird? A little, though to be fair, it’s possible that it was intended to be a joke:The question “How did the date go before Mike handed you this form?” seems to poke fun at the whole idea. However, if it WAS a joke, it backfired pretty badly. Deadline’s reader was careful to point out that Survey Dude wasn’t creepy or anything; however, he DID seem like “the type of guy who overanalyzes every detail and feels completely awkward in the majority of social situations.” Also, she mentioned that “it didn’t seem like he got out much.” Ouch.
Tell us: Would YOU hand a survey to your date after the evening was over?
