CNN reports that at 4:24 p.m. local time, Duchess Catherine gave birth to a baby boy weighing 8 pounds 6 ounces. All together now: AWWWWWWW! Congrats, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William! Now, what’s his name? Any bets on Harry Potter?

Well kids, as every single news and gossip outlet is also breathlessly announcing, it looks like the Royal Baby is indeed making his/her way into the world.  I can’t imagine having to go into labor with million and trillions of eyes on me, like Kate Middleton reportedly did several hours ago — including crowds of people gathering outside the hospital. We admit it — we’re fascinated too, and hoping for a girl! Why? Because those royals are FINALLY planning to change the rules of succession, so no matter what gender this baby is, he/she will be the heir to the throne. So … kind of awesome if it’s a girl.

    No royal baby fever. Sorry. I just don't understand the obsession with British royals after our U.S. ancestors worked so hard to free ourselves from the monarchy. That said, I wish a happy, healthy baby for all new parents, including Kate and William.
